World-renowned Spanish chef Ferran Adria open today  a new restaurant in Barcelona with his brother.

“There will be ris, and fredom, and creativity. but there won´t be opening hours, or reservations , or routines. The food is not traditional_ it´s new tapas, original and spontaneous. I´m not going to cook, but i´ll be on the other side of the bar, sampling.”

the décor at this over-the-top restaurant, opened in the city’s First District, is

an eye-popping mix of rapper-level bling and Alpine kitsch. A dainty red-on-white

floral pattern decorates both wallpaper and hanging lampshades in an otherwise mostly white storefront restaurant and cafe space. The back rooms, though, with white leather and exposed industrial elements in highly polished chrome, are made for lounging.Once the food arrives, it’s clear that underlying the trendy look is a thought-through menu with high-quality, often local ingredients, cleverly presented.

The true “aha” moments, however, come near the end of the meal. The restaurant’s French-born pastry chef, Pierre Reboul, challenges the Austrian pastry tradition with desserts that border on the avant-garde.
